Laguna restaurant wins vegan-friendly award

Zpizza founder Sid Faranof pulls a pear and Gorgonzola pizza out of the oven.

Laguna Beach-based zpizza has won the Libby Award (short for “liberation”) for most vegan-friendly restaurant chain, peta2 announced Monday.

Visitors to peta2.com helped the youth animal rights organization determine winners by voting for their favorites.

The restaurant won out over other chains by providing vegan choices, including vegan cheese, veggie burger crumbles, artichoke hearts, arugula, roasted eggplant, zucchini and mushrooms. The chain also offers a specialty pizza called the Berkeley Vegan, as well as vegan calzones, sandwiches  and salads.

Would you pay $30 million for a home?

Two more homes have hit the market this month at $30 million or more, one in Corona del Mar and one in Laguna Beach.

That brings to six the number of Orange County residences now for sale in that price category. (Click on photos above of 4 of the half-dozen!)

They are, with nuggets such as listing date; asking price; number of bedrooms and baths; square footage of house and lot — and price per square foot of home; plus year built:
..

HomeList DatePriceBedBathSF$ per SFLot SFYear built
401 Avocado, Corona del Mar 09/29/09 $38 million 4 3.5 4,207 $9,033 2.37 (acres) 1936
22 Emerald Bay, Laguna Beach Early ‘08 $35 million 3 3.5 3,602 $9,717 6,720 1979
31887 Circle Dr., S. Laguna 3/17/06 $35 million 2 2.5 2,029 $17,250 5,640 1987
18 Harbor Is., Newport Bay 5/2/08 $32.6 million 10 12 11,654 $2,797 17,694 1988
2665 Riviera Dr., Laguna Beach 5/11/10 $31.5 million 5 6.25 10,800 $2,917 23,997 2001
3729 Ocean Blvd., Corona del Mar 2/3/10 $29.995 million 3 4.5 7,000 $4,285 12,000 2000

Mind you, you could pay $30 million for one of these breath-taking, water-front mansions, or you could own 61 median-priced houses in this county.

But there are perhaps intangible reasons for owning a home of this caliber. They’re not making any more beachfront, they say. And the money-is-no-object crowd apparently is willing to bid up the prices forever.

So put yourself in their shoes. If you had to pick, which one of these $30 million abodes would you chose? (To help you decide, click on the addresses and prices to get more details!)

Which home would you pick?
